Covering any cream pie with chocolate crumbs and gummy worms is an easy way to Halloween-up dessert.
At Halloween, pie takes a backseat to candy. But unless
your costume is scary and hideous and you're pretending to be
someone who doesn't like pie, it's time to bring pie to the
forefront where it belongs!
Everything goes spooky for Halloween - punch is served in a black
cauldron, tables are covered in spiderwebs, candy bowls are shaped
like Zombie hands... the list goes on. Halloween is really a
very dark and gruesome holiday. So you'll need some creepy
pie.
The easiest way to make any pie fit for an All's Hollow's Event is
to use food coloring creatively and add a spooky-sounding adjective
to the name. Coconut Cream Pie with a couple drops of red
coloring becomes Bloody Coconut Cream Pie. Or you could use
orange and black coloring, just make sure the colors don't run
together.
You can also use cake frosting, colored sugar crystals, or even
peanut butter to draw designs in the top of your pie.
If you want to kick it up and really impress, try this
crowd-pleaser (The recipe is just a chocolate custard pie made to
look like a graveyard. You can really use this graveyard
topper idea on any base pie you want):
1 Chocolate Crust
1 can (12 oz.) evaporated milk
1 3/4 cups chocolate chips
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs
8 Milano cookies
Decorator writing gels
Assorted Halloween gummies candy
Whisk together the evaporated milk, egg yolks and cornstarch in
medium saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly,
until the mixture is very hot and thickens slightly (do not boil).
Remove from heat, then stir in the chocolate chips until they're
completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
Pour the mixture into the crust.
Sprinkle with the cookie crumbs. Press crumbs down gently.
Refrigerate for 3 hours or until set.
Decorate the cookies as tombstones with writing gels as desired; let
set. Insert tombstones around edge of pie.
With a spoon, mound the cookie crumbs to form "fresh graves."
Decorate your graveyard with candy to make the pie spooky.
